Cricket World Cup 2007

Dwayne Bravo, West Indies - Player profile

In a side chock-full of great names, Dwayne Bravo's stands out. One half of the triumphantly-named partnership along with Tino Best.

Cricket-wise, Dwayne Bravo's mighty tidy. A genuine all-rounder in a world of make-weights. He's a top batsman and a better than reliable bowler with a killer slower ball.

We've just realised he's one of our favourite cricketers and we never even knew.

Marlon Samuels, West Indies - Player profile

Sort of all right batsman. Sort of all right bowler.

Hopefully he'll amount to something more during the World Cup. Although not everyone can be a winner, so maybe not. We don't know. Whatever. His batting's held in fairly high regard by a few people who know more than we do.

Runako Morton, West Indies - Player profile

'Runako'. Just you try and dislike a guy called Runako.

He's colourful, is our Runako. He got chucked out of the West Indian academy. He skived cricket by lying about the death of his grandmother. Once he was arrested after a 'stabbing incident'. We don't know what happened with that. It's probably on the internet somewhere.

At the end of the day, though. He's still called Runako. He sounds like a character from a Japanese cartoon: "Runako! You have extraordinary power!"

Carlton Baugh, West Indies - Player profile

Carlton Baugh's a wicketkeeper. He hasn't done much yet.

We're glad that we found a photo of his back. That'll bulk up his entry a bit at least.

Oh no. Wait. We know. He's got two surnames. That's worth pointing out. We've warmed to him immeasurably. There are plenty of people with two first names (eg, John Howard) but a much smaller number with two surnames. It balances things out. The West Indian team is actually a useful resource for spare surnames.

Corey Collymore, West Indies - Player profile

Corey Collymore's strengths are all the boring ones like 'accuracy'. We've a sort of grudging respect for Corey Collymore, but no more than that.

For a period it was reassuring for West Indies' captains to have Collymore in the side. At least they knew what he was likely to do. The Windies bowling attack is probably strong enough that they can do without him now. He can fulfil the 'reliable back-up' role.

Jerome Taylor, West Indies - Player profile

People always say that the West Indies don't produce fast bowlers any more. They do. Jerome Taylor's one. It's just that they're not always all that good.

Jerome Taylor IS good, from what we've seen. We'd like to see more. If he's good we WILL see more. And we will see that he is good. So will you.

Tino Best, West Indies - Player profile

Tino Best is a fast bowler and he acts like one. That's quite refreshing.

He's the kind of guy who'll bowl five bouncers in an over. We seem to remember him talking to himself half the time when he first appeared as well. Maybe he was talking to the batsman. He's a lively sort of guy anyway. Pity he's not too good yet.

All the same, he's one half of the triumphantly-named partnership along with Dwayne Bravo.

Darren Sammy, West Indies - Player profile

Darren Sammy's initials are D J. He's DJ Sammy! Actually he's DJG Sammy: A cricketer and doubtless a decent bloke, unlike the other DJ Sammy.

The other DJ Sammy's so worthless that he chose to do a cover version of Don Henley's Boys Of Summer, already one of the worst songs ever recorded - and he made it worse.
